The Secret Of Sterling Silver

All of our sterling silver name rings, bracelets and necklaces come with a stamped hallmark reading 925. This number is a jewelry industry standard, and it means that 92.5% is pure silver, and the remaining 7.5% is copper. This copper additive serves as an important alloy, making the item more durable and more importantly, resistant to tarnishing.

For centuries silver has been used to make jewelry due to its beauty, luster and quality. But there are distinct differences between the types of silver available in the modern jewelry marketplace that we wanted to clarify for our customers. One frequently asked question in the jewelry world is: What is the difference between real sterling silver and plated silver, and how can each be identified?

To begin, our hand-carved name rings are made exclusively from solid hallmarked sterling silver! We do not use hollow or plated metals ever when creating our rings, bracelets or necklaces. We have a high standard we wish to uphold and sterling silver helps us do just that. A sterling silver name ring is much stronger than one made of pure silver, which is critical when carving it. Additionally, the silver will never wear away and reveal a far less attractive brass metal as the base.

If you are unsure of the authenticity of any of your sterling silver jewelry, you can easily purchase a testing kit online to see if what you have is the real thing or not. Another fun test is to place a piece of ice on top of your silver and another piece of ice on another surface. The ice on the silver should melt quicker as real silver is a heat conductor. To be sure though, the testing kit is probably the most effective testing tool.
